July 7th, 2016. The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Small Merchant Taskforce was formed by the PCI Security Standards Council (SSC) to address the needs of the small merchant market segment by providing simple guidance on protecting payment card data against theft.
As a member of the PCI Small Merchant Taskforce. Natasja Bolton, Senior Acquirer Support QSA at Sysnet Global Solutions, has contributed to the development of new payment resources (described below) to help small merchants and their banks defend against cybercrime.
“It’s a great privilege to participate in the PCI Small Merchant Taskforce” said Natasja Bolton, Senior Acquirer Support QSA at Sysnet Global Solutions, “The initiative was truly representative, bringing together acquiring banks, ISOs, QSAs, vendors and merchants. The group has succeeded in producing resources that will help small businesses take practical steps to protect themselves from cyber-attack.
Sysnet is dedicated to working with small businesses and acquiring organisations to improve cybersecurity and prevent payment card data breaches. Having the opportunity to contribute to this industry-wide initiative, specifically aimed at helping those small businesses to educate and protect themselves, aligns perfectly for us.”
With simple diagrams and everyday language, the resources are designed to provide a common point of understanding between merchants, their banks, payment processors, and merchant vendors on why and how to protect against payment card data theft.
The resources include a basic guide to safe payments; real-life pictures of merchant payment systems; questions for merchants to ask their technology and service providers; and a short glossary that simplifies technical terms.
The PCI small merchant payment protection resources are available from the PCI Council website as a digital toolkit for banks, acquirers, payment processors, ISOs, master merchants etc. to download, co-brand and distribute to their small business customers. Flip-book printed versions of the Small Merchant Guide to Safe Payments are also available for order.
Visit the PCI Council website to download and share the PCI small merchant payment protection resources. The Council’s PCI Perspectives blog post, “Focusing on the Fundamentals: Payment Protection Resources for Small Businesses”, provides additional insights on helping stem the tide of cyberattacks and data breaches.
