About the role

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team in the delivery of activity that will drive the next phase of our business growth. This role will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and migrating our database environment, and ensuring data flows between systems efficiently.

A key role of the Senior Database Administrator will be to advise on the processes and configuration that will be used. For the purposes of understanding the role we are using today: MariaDB, MySQL, RDS, MongoDB, AWS, GCP, Ubuntu, Git, Tomcat, Apache, Docker, Kubernetes, CloudFormation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding the company’s data environment.

  • Maintenance of production database servers – datacentre, and cloud.

  • Installation of new database servers and clusters.

  • Troubleshooting and upgrading of production database servers and clusters.

  • Driving performance and reliability from software and infrastructure.

  • Ensuring efficient data flow between systems and services.

  • Writing reports, performing data fixes and archiving.


  • Expert knowledge of SQL and stored procedures.

  • In-depth knowledge & experience of MySQL/MariaDB (3+ years).

  • Query tuning, optimisation, and monitoring in an enterprise environment.

  • Root cause analysis of performance issues.

  • Experience running production databases in AWS / GCP / Azure.

  • Experience with database and associated server monitoring.

  • Experience understanding the causes of performance issues, identifying, and resolving them.

  • Good knowledge of Linux and scripting.

  • Experience with stress testing databases.

  • Familiarity with database clustering.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a DBA role.
